Last time I checked April showers were supposed to bring May flowers. That does not appear to be the case so far. April showers brought May showers. It’s been too cold for the flowers to really show up yet. We’ve been see low to mid 60s in the day time, but over night is still hovering around freezing. We really aren’t complaining too loudly, as the valley needs the moisture. The drought is gonna be a rough one this year.
I have no real updates on the house. We’re trying to be patient with the process, but it’s been frustrating coordinating all the utilities and getting them all connected so that the finisher can be scheduled to seam the inside and repair any interior damage done in transport. Hopefully the next newsletter I send will be from inside our new home.
Over The Rainbow and to The Pound
Close friends and Instagram followers will know that we helped our Hedy girl over the rainbow bridge at the beginning of April. Letting her go was quite possibly one of the hardest pet losses I’ve lived through. She was 13 and struggling to get up and walking took to much effort. Rather than watch her suffer we made the decision to let her go over the rainbow to join the others who’d gone before her.
Life will never be quite the same without this stubborn girl, but letting her be at peace was so much more important.
She was the first dog in my life to pick me as her human, so the huge paw shaped whole is a big one.
I couldn’t stand living in a house without a furry baby, so after a couple of weeks I started looking and there was this one little love bug that tugged a my heart in the Steamboat Springs, CO animal shelter.
We adopted Abby on Hubby’s birthday at the end of April. She’s four months old and a huge bundle of energy, but we love her so much.

Abby looks like a puppy version of our Hedy girl, maybe that’s what tugged at our heart strings. We were told at the pound that she was a Doberman Pincher Mix. If she is, she’s a tiny one. We ordered a doggie DNA test because we’re curious pet parents and that’s what we do. Our Hedy girl was a Husky, Rottie, Chow Mix and she was a stubborn one. Let’s hope this one doesn’t have that kind of stubborn streak.
Abby is a definite snuggler and full of curiosity. According to the animal shelter she’s been in a shelter since she was found as a puppy, so essentially her entire life. She’d been in a shelter in Texas for close to three months and then shipped to Colorado. She’d been in Steamboat for almost a month when we adopted her.
From the pound being the only life she knew, to a world of opportunities filled with love and freedom to sniff all the things. She’s still trying to figure it all out, but she’s settling in well.
